Big Things Are Happening At River Valley

december blog
December 2022 is an exciting month!
We are excited to announce that we have hired a new Student Pastor! Most of you are aware that we have been searching for a new Student Pastor with our growth as a church. I am stepping into the role of Executive Pastor and our previous Student Pastor, Josh Grant, is stepping into the role that I am vacating with Connections and Groups. So we are excited to announce that Jason Wyatt has been hired as our new Student Pastor!
You will begin to see he and his wife, Mandi, at church. We will more formally introduce them to you soon. They officially moved to Bastrop this past weekend. They have a teenage daughter who just started college in Waxahachie, Texas. Be sure to say hi to them and make them feel part of the RV family. Jason is going to do a tremendous job ministering to our students and their families!
December is also an exciting month because we are currently decorating the church for Christmas. This also means that we are preparing for our Classic Christmas Services on December 10 & 11.
Classic Christmas is our gift to Bastrop County. These Candlelight Christmas Services are complete with Children’s Ministry for kids, ages 6 wks - 6th grade. It’s a great time to come and celebrate King Jesus! It’s also a great opportunity to invite a co-worker, friend, or neighbor because they will have a blast AND most importantly, they will hear/experience the gospel!
There are several ways that you can invite. We have invitation cards at the church that you can use. We are encouraging everyone to take 2 cards and invite 2 people to join you for Classic Christmas. Think about the impact that will make if every one of us invited 2 people to sit with us at these services.
Another great way to invite others is to utilize your social media platform. If you visit the River Valley Facebook or Twitter pages right now, you will find a video post about Classic Christmas. All you have to do is share that post on Facebook or retweet that post on Twitter. It’s the simplest way to share this invitation with your friends and followers online.
If your life is like mine…and I’m sure it is…December can easily become just a hustle and bustle of activity. Before long, I’m ready for it to be over before I even get to Classic Christmas or even get to Christmas morning.
It’s easy to miss Jesus in all of the Christmas parties and preparation for Christmas break. So let’s do this - let’s commit together to not miss Jesus as we start the month of December. Let’s pray and commit that we want to enjoy the parties. Let’s work hard to prepare for the Christmas break. Let’s be thoughtful and enjoy the process of buying gifts - thinking about who we are buying for and why are giving that gift. As cliche and corny as it may sound, allow the gift buying to remind us of the reason we do gifts. It points us to the true gift at Christmas = Jesus. The reason we have lights is to remind us of the true light = Jesus. You get the idea. Let’s enjoy this month. Let’s enjoy the season. Let’s enjoy each other. And most importantly, let’s not miss Jesus!
